Preparation...

Greetings friends!!! I had a great time over Spring Break. It was nice to go home and relax for a while, but now it's back to the grind. Today, I woke up got dressed and headed to class. It was an overcast day and I probably should have expected some rain. Unfortunately, I did not bring an umbrella with me and was drenched on my way back to my dorm after computer skills. It was not a good feeling to say the least. In addition to dealing with the chilly rain I had to now find a new change of clothes. If only I had brought my umbrella with me...
I can apply this to all aspects of my life. It is better to be over prepared. Sometimes you may think your hard work won't pay off, but that one time when it does it will all be worth it. Say you decide to write a paper and finish it a week ahead of time, and just that day you get assigned another essay. Now you can focus on the newly assigned essay and will be less stressed. While it may not always be what you want to do, going the extra mile to be prepared for anything will pay off in the end. Later friends!!!

Laziness: When is it good? When is it bad?

Greetings friends!! Last week was a very easy week for me. I really did not much work at all, so I had plenty of time to be lazy. This can be a double-edged sword, though. It is great to have time to relax, but it is bad to get into a habit of not doing anything. This is what's been happening to me recently. This week, I actually have work to do, and I have not been getting much done. There is a certain mindset you have to get in to get work done, and I simply haven’t been in that. I’m starting to find some solutions, though. First off, for me one of the most important things is to stay active. I have recently been going to the gym quite often and it keeps my energy up. Also, I have learned that in order to maintain this energy I need to keep myself busy while doing work. That is whenever I reach a lull while working on something I need to move on to some other work. This helps keep me focused and awake. Energy drinks also help this, but should be used with caution :O. The main point, though, is that is great to relax, but too much relaxation can make you lazy and unproductive. Finding a balance is the key to succeeding not only in schoolwork but also in life. Later Friends!!!

I have great friends!

Greetings friends!!! The past several weeks have been a lot of fun, but they were not without disappointment. The day before bid day for fraternities and sororities, my friends and I went to a program about Greek life fairly confident that we would soon become members of Pi Kappa Alpha. The next day, we got the call. We didn’t get a bid. We were all very disappointed and to find a way to get our frustrations we all went to the gym. On Friday night that week, we (non-bid people) had our own party. That night and the rest of that weekend really made me realize what great friends I have. It didn’t take very long for me to get over not getting into the frat. I’ve learned to treasure the time I spend with my friends. I am always busy doing schoolwork during the week, and it is nice to be able to relax knowing that any free time I have will be spent with my friends.
This past weekend it was my roommate Alex’s birthday. We all dressed up to go out to dinner and had a fantastic time. It was a great night that was just spent enjoying ourselves and spending quality time with each other. The past few weeks have made me realize I have a lot to be thankful for in my life. While things are not always perfect, I really do have quite a few things going for me in my life. Here’s to more good times with my friends. Well, that’s it for now. Later friends!!!

Nothing is Certain

Greetings Friends!! These past two weeks have been very eventful to say the least. From parties and sporting events to homework and more randomness than I am used, a lot of stuff has happened. I have recently gotten more involved in rushing Pi Kappa Alpha, and I made a preference to join today. In the weeks before this, I was starting to lean away from rushing, but I decided to go to a Rampage game, which is the minor league hockey team in San Antonio, with some of my friends who were rushing. I had a great time with my friends and the PIKES and even hung out at a PIKES’ house later that night. Also, last week I had an experience that I cannot mention, but it was one I will never forget. It made me realize that things can change in an instant and sitting back and watching it happen just isn’t enough. I need to continue to keep this in mind as I live my life. Little things and other pointless problems will solve themselves if I give them time; I need to keep my life in perspective. I am going to make an effort to never get too down or be too high on myself because I know that everything could change. On a lighter note, life is great! It is amazing how I have learned so much about myself through college so far, and I look forward to each new day. Later Friends!!

Alarm Clock Mayhem

Greetings friends!!! Monday night was a pretty normal for Miller 1st standards. After lots of randomness I decided to call it a night. It was about 2 a.m. My first class on Tuesday was at 12:45 p.m., but I decided to set my alarm for 10 a.m. in order to get some work done. At 7:45 a.m. the next morning, my roommate’s “siren” alarm wakes me up, but with a slight grunt, I go back to sleep. At 10:00 a.m., my alarm goes off. I’m not ready to wake up, so I reset my alarm for 10:30. 10:30 comes, and I’m still not ready to wake up! Now I set my alarm for 11:30, not such a good idea. The next time I wake up is not to an alarm. I look at the clock and it’s 1 p.m.!! I overslept for a 12:45 class!! I guess I just became resistant to that alarm and ignored it, or just turned it off subconsciously.
Now what did I learn from this? Well, I want to tell myself that my brain perceives cell phone alarms as quieter each time they ring, but that’s just to make myself feel better about oversleeping for a 12:45 p.m. class. From now on, I will wake up the first time my alarm goes off, no matter how tired I feel. I can apply this to my studies as well. I need to get things done at the first chance I get, rather than putting stuff off until later because I’m tired or would just rather be doing something else. Getting my priorities straight is essential to my success in college, and waking up on time is a good start.
